What a glorious weekend to camp! Those of us over 40 slept in the trailer, and those under 30 slept in tents. (I'm glad I'm over 40!)

I got to plan the menu, and if it's true that "food is fun", then we really had a great time!

Here's a recipe for the pancakes we had both mornings:

Buttermilk Yeast Pancakes

4-cup flour
2 Tbsp baking soda
2 Tbsp baking powder
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1-quart buttermilk
6 eggs
1 pkg yeast
½-cup oil

Dissolve yeast in one cup of lukewarm buttermilk. Mix all ingredients well. Pour into covered container ¾ full, since it will “grow.” Let sit for 24 hours refrigerated. Stir well before each use. Will keep up to 10 days. Grey specks are a sure sign the yeast is active.

To top it off, I highly recommend fresh picked, wild huckleberry sauce.

Too close of an encounter

After worship this morning at a local Evangelical Free Church, we stopped for lunch, dropped off the underwater cameras to be developed at the drug store, came back to the condominium so I could have my Sunday afternoon nap.
Then we went back to our favorite snorkeling beach, Kahalu’u Beach Park, which is just down the road from us. Though I cannot make myself GO snorkeling, I do like the IDEA of snorkeling. Today, as I was standing close to the shore, in about a foot of water, a green sea turtle touched me. Ewwee. Ick. This photo shows the turtle “resting” against my leg as the wave held him in place until it subsided and he was ready to move on. It was very cool to SEE the turtle, but to have him TOUCH me was excessively much. I immediately got out of the water. I know, I am such a “girly girl”. Thank you.
I did go back in the water a bit later, and got to see two more turtles, but this time, they did not come so close to me. We drove around the rim of Kilauea, and then hiked down into the Kilauea Iki Crater.
What was so neat about this, was way, way back in history, this volcano erupted during my first year of life. We were in Oahu, where my dad was stationed, and I was born. My folks purchased an 8mm film of the volcano erupting, and I remember so well watching the film as a kid, when we would get the projector out and watch family movies. Once we were in the middle of the crater, I called my folks and told them were I was standing. They got a big kick out of that phone call!

The trail down to the crater was beautiful.

Standing on top the rim, overlooking the crater.

Just after my phone call to my folks!

How many shades of blue can there be?

After a day of rain, and flooding warnings, God blessed the Big Island with bright sunshine. Sunday’s rain and evening breezes cleared out the smoke from the volcano, and the rain clouds that have been causing the grey and gloom the Islanders have complained about.

Monday, we drove up a bit north to a newly opened state park. As we pulled off the highway and drove down the windy road, our view of the actual beach was blocked by a couple hills. Suddenly, around the corner, I could do nothing but gasp with shock and awe! All my life I have seen photos of beaches with white sand and blue water, but never have I even dreamed I would get to see it with my own eyes, let alone actually swim in it. The sun was shining, everything was crystal clear, and even though I can name about twenty shades of blue from any paint company, I cannot even begin to describe how many shades of blue the water looked! From the palest blue, to dark bright blue, to aqua marine blue, to greenish blue, green blue, blue green, bluish green, to dark blue, bluish purple, to a purpley blue on the horizon. It was so beautiful, I really wanted to sit down and cry. How wise and wonderful our Creator is, and how good He is to us!

We went back to this beach on Saturday, and got to see a hump backed whale blow many times and do the slow arch they do. We also saw two pods of spinner dolphins jumping, spinning, and enjoying life!

Here are my two favorite beach bums!

Keeping Up and Joining the Fun!

How cool is this?

The air is warm, a gentle breeze washes over me, heavy with the fragrance of beautiful flowers, salt air, and mysterious bird song, reminding me I’m not in Washington any more!

I’m sitting here by the pool, overlooking the ocean, watching and listening to the waves crash onto the beach below. Mamma breaks bread off in pieces and leaves the crumbs for baby, scratches for a worm, and calls baby to it. . .and puts herself between the dog, the fence and the baby.

Now I understand why I'm sometimes called "Mother Hen"!

labor and delivery

After weeks of labor, my web site has been delivered, and is ready to greet the world!

www.AndersonHomesRedesigned.com

Whew~ now it's time to get to work!

Happy Birthday. . .

<img style="FLOAT: right; So he went on with haste..." (John Bunyan, Pilgrim's Progress); "'I'm wishing you God-speed, Hattersley,' cried Arthur, 'and aiding you with my prayers'" (Anne Brontë Tenant of Wildfell Hall); "Rowland at the garden gate was giving his hostess Godspeed on her way to church" (Henry James, Roderick Hudson); "Eight years before he had seen his friend off at the North Wall and wished him God-speed" (James Joyce, Dubliners).

Godspeed is a nominalization of the phrase God speed (you), understanding which depends on two things: speed in this sense means 'to prosper; succeed', which is now archaic, but which is the original sense of the word; and the verb is subjunctive, expressing a wish, with the entire phrase meaning "may God cause you to succeed." Semantic parallels are such common expressions as God bless you or God forbid!

The word Godspeed (which can also be written God-speed) is from Middle English, first found in personal names in the thirteenth century.
From:
http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19980129

I love this phrase, but wondered about it origins. Just in time to spend his 53rd wedding anniversary with his dear wife who passed on 5 1/2 years ago.

The first two months were fairly easy dealing with everything. Dear is executor of his dad's will, so we've been busy dealing with the estate; cleaning, sorting, and dividing, dealing with paperwork and lawyers. So many decisions to make. So much "stuff" to go through!

Earlier this week Dear's little sis drove out from Mississippi to pack up and load the U Haul to take her stuff home. Now that we've all picked through what stuff we want and the house is just about empty, it's hit Dear and I that Dad and Mom are really gone. It feels so strange to be "orphans". Dear without parents and me without in-laws. (I've teased Dear--at least he's got in-laws; I don't!)
(Interesting . . . 40 years ago this month, Dear and his family moved into that home. . . and 40 years later, they moved out. Definitely wasn't a wander through the desert!)

Now the grieving has begun for us. We miss them both.
But, what comfort knowing Dad and Mom are together, standing before the face of our LORD, singing a new song together! What joy! Praise and Glory be to Him!

All In a Day's Work

<img style="DISPLAY: block; When we are feeling dead and dry inside, we can ask the Holy Spirit to enliven us, even as He hovered over the waters in the creation of the world, and brought them life.

Spirit of God, that moved of old
Upon the waters’ darkened face,
Come, when our faithless hearts are cold,
And stir them with an inward grace.
Thou that art power and peace combined,
All highest strength, all purest love,
The rushing of the mighty wind,
The brooding of the gentle dove.
Come, give us still Thy powerful aid,
And urge us on, and make us Thine;
Nor leave the hearts that once were made
Fit temples for Thy grace divine.
Nor let us quench Thy sev’nfold light;
But still with softest breathings stir
Our wayward souls, and lead us right,
O Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

By Cecil Frances Humphreys Alexander
Written 1852
Cecil Frances is the same hymn writer who wrote "All Creatures Great and Small."

Say it fast

Shah Cubs Oar Burr

In Prayer

From The Valley of Vision, A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotion

In Prayer

O Lord, in prayer I launch far out into the eternal world, and on that broad ocean my soul triumphs over all evils on the shores of mortality. Tozer prayed,
“O, God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need for further grace, I am ashamed of my lack of desire, O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be make more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.’ Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered for so long. In Jesus’ Name, Amen”.
I love this prayer and remember it often~ I love how He satisfies me with Himself, quenching my thirst, yet not~ I love how He is always full of mercy, and I love how He always gives me grace. I just can't help but love Him!!

I want one too~

If E,L & M's mom can have a blog, I think G,R, & J's mom should too!
